HOLY THURSDAY CHRISM MASS – April 13, 2017 – 11:00 a.m.

St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570. 

Bishop John O. Barres is the main celebrant and homilist.  This Mass is a clear expression of the unity of the priesthood and the sacrifice of Christ which continues to be present in the Church.  During the Mass, Bishop Barres will consecrate the Oil of Chrism and bless the Oil of Catechumens and Oil of the Sick.  These holy oils will be used throughout the diocese during the coming year in celebration of the Sacraments.

HOLY THURSDAY MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER.  April 13, 2017 – 8:00 p.m. 

St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570. 

Bishop John Barres is the main celebrant and homilist.  This Mass commemorates the Last Supper, during which Christ instituted the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist, the sacrament of Holy Orders and gave us His commandment to love one another.  After the homily, following the example of Christ who washed the feet of the apostles during the Last Supper, Bishop Barres will wash the feet of parishioners.

GOOD FRIDAY. PASSION OF OUR LORD.  April 14, 2017 – 3:00 p.m.  

St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570. 

Bishop John Barres will preside at a celebration of the Lord’s Passion.  According to the Church’s ancient tradition, the sacraments are not celebrated on Good Friday or Holy Saturday.  During this celebration, Christ’s crucifixion is remembered through the Liturgy of the Word that includes Veneration of the Cross.

HOLY SATURDAY EASTER VIGIL – April 15, 2017 – 8:00 p.m.

St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570. 

Bishop John Barres is the celebrant and homilist at the Easter Vigil Mass celebrating the Resurrection of Christ.  There are four parts: Light Service (Blessing of the Fire and lighting of the Paschal Candle), Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of Baptism and the Eucharist.  After a reflective and intense period of prayer during Lent, Catechumens (those who have not been baptized) and Candidates (those who have been baptized in other faiths) will become full members of the Catholic Church at St. Agnes Cathedral and in parishes throughout the Diocese of Rockville Centre.  In 2017, 232 catechumens and 327 candidates will come into full communion with the Church.

Catechumens, who have never been baptized, will receive baptism, confirmation and first Communion at the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil. Candidates, who have already been baptized in another Christian tradition whose baptism is recognized by the Catholic Church, will enter the Church through a profession of faith and reception of confirmation and the Eucharist.

EASTER SUNDAY MASS – April 16, 2017 – 11:00 a.m.

St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570. 

Bishop John Barres is the celebrant and homilist at the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord.  Other Masses at the Cathedral on Easter Sunday:

·         In Cathedral: 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. (Family Mass); 11:00 a.m.,12:30 p.m.

·         In Parish Center: 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m. (Family Mass) and 12:30 p.m.

·         The 11:00 a.m. Mass will be broadcast live on Telecare, the diocesan television station: Cablevision channel 29/137, Verizon FiOS channel 296 and Time Warner Cable channel 471.  Viewers can also watch the Mass online at www.telecaretv.org.
